Edward M. Kennedy Institute Social Studies Field Trip Reminders

Here are the final updates for the Edward M. Kennedy Institute Social Studies Field Trip for this week as well:

During our morning at the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the U.S. Senate, students will explore the important work of the legislative branch.  Each student will be assigned the role of a particular U.S. Senator.  They will work on committees and debate policy.  Our focus is the reauthorization of the USA PATRIOT ACT.    The simulation culminates with speeches and a vote in EMK's full-scale replica of the Senate chamber.  This trip will take place entirely in school hours.

Students are reminded of the following:

1. As students will be role playing US senators, there is a dress code.  Boys are expected to wear a button down shirt and pants.  Jackets and ties are optional.  Girls are expected to wear a nice pants, a skirt, or a dress, and a nice top.  Students should not wear sweats, shorts, hats, or hoods. All school rules applying to dress code are of course in effect for this learning experience.

2. Students should bring their own lunch and drink for this trip. We have many students with nut allergies so please do not pack any foods for your child which contain nuts. Thank you for seeing to this important safety measure. Students should bring their own, non-caffeinated beverages, as well with their lunch.

3.  If your child has an epipen or inhaler they should bring this with them on the field trip to the EMK Institute. If your child has a med order on file with the school nurse we will have the spare epipen or inhaler in the medical bag. If your child does not have a medical order on file they are responsible for carrying their own inhaler and/or epipen.

Thanks
